Montessori

Montessori toys let a child try things out and discover for themselves. They are simple, single-purpose sensory toys without lights or sounds — the child directs the play, not the toy. A Montessori toy can be recognized by three things: natural material, one clear task, and the ability for the child to notice their own mistake. If a block doesn't fit the opening, the child figures that out themselves without an adult needing to say so. A sensory toy offers something for the senses: a different texture, weight, shape, or quiet sound. A flashing, talking toy does the work for the child, while a quiet toy pushes them to act on their own and holds their attention longer.
